💺 Seat categories and pricing

Categories are how your seats get their prices. Every seat on your chart needs one, and each category links to the ticket types you sell.

🏷️ How categories work

  • On your chart, a category groups seats together and gives them a colour, for example Standard in blue, VIP in gold, Accessible in green.

  • On your event, you link each ticket type to a category. That's what sets the price customers pay for those seats.

  • Each seat has one category, but a category can have more than one ticket type. For example, your Standard category could have an Adult ticket at £25, a Concession ticket at £18 and a Child ticket at £12.

Because prices live on the event, not the chart, you can use the same chart for a £10 open mic and a £40 headliner. Build for the venue, not the event.

➕ Creating categories

  1. In the designer, click an empty part of the canvas so nothing is selected.

  2. Next to Categories, click Manage.

  3. Click Create a new category, give it a name and press Enter.

  4. Repeat for each price band.

🎨 Applying categories to seats

  1. Use the Select tool to pick a block of seats, a table or an area.

  2. Choose the category from the panel on the right.

  3. The seats change colour so you can see what's done. Seats still showing red need a category.

💡 Naming tips

Customers see your category names in the seat picker, so keep them clear and familiar:

  • Name them after the area of the venue (Stalls, Circle, Balcony) or the experience (VIP Table, Front Row).

  • Only selling one price? A single category called "Standard" is fine.

  • We'd recommend avoiding internal codes like "Band A", as these won't mean much to customers.

❓ Common questions

Can I change a seat's category later? Yes, just edit the chart and reassign it. Please note, if tickets are already on sale, this changes which ticket types can be bought for that seat.

Do I need different categories for accessible seats? We recommend it. An Accessible category lets you price and manage those seats separately, and you can change it per event from your Event dashboard.
