For most events, Skiddle uses our own Merchant Account to process debit and credit card payments. This means Skiddle handles the payment process for you, with no card processing fees payable by you.
Alternatively, you can use DirectPay via Stripe, allowing ticket funds to be paid directly into your own Stripe account. π
π‘ What Is DirectPay?
With DirectPay, you connect your own Stripe account to Skiddle.
When a customer purchases a ticket:
ποΈ The customer buys their ticket through Skiddle.
π³ The payment is processed through your Stripe account.
π° The ticket funds are paid directly into your Stripe account.
π¦ Stripe then settles the funds into your bank account according to your agreement with them.
π The order, customer information and reporting remain available through the Promotion Centre as usual.
π The main benefit: You receive your ticket funds on an ongoing basis rather than waiting until after your event has taken place. This can help improve cash flow, particularly for smaller events.
π How Does the Buying Process Work?
The customer experience remains largely the same:
π₯οΈ The customer visits Skiddle and adds your tickets to their basket.
π³ They enter their card details and complete the order.
π° The ticket funds are sent directly to your Stripe account.
π¦ Stripe settles the funds into your bank account based on your Stripe payout schedule.
π The order and customer data remain available in your Promotion Centre.
β What Are the Advantages?
Using DirectPay via Stripe can offer several benefits:
π· Receive funds shortly after each sale rather than waiting until after your event.
π Improved cash flow for your event.
π¦ Direct access to your ticket funds through your Stripe account.
π Continue to manage your orders and customer data through Skiddle.
β οΈ What Are the Disadvantages?
When using DirectPay, you become the legal merchant of record for the transaction.
This means:
π³ You are responsible for any chargebacks.
π‘οΈ Stripe's fraud prevention tools and procedures will apply to your transactions.
β οΈ Stripe may place restrictions on payments if their underwriting team considers your event to be at a high risk of cancellation.
π° You'll need to pay Stripe's payment processing fees.
Stripe's standard European card processing fee is currently stated as 1.4% + 20p.
π‘ This is unlikely to be an issue for well-run events, but you can discuss your event directly with Stripe before switching to DirectPay.
π How to Set Up DirectPay via Stripe
To get started:
π Go to the DirectPay page in the Promotion Centre.
π³ Click the button to create or connect your Stripe account.
π Follow the Stripe prompts.
β‘ If you're creating a new Stripe account, most of your details will be pre-filled, making the process quick and straightforward.
ποΈ Once connected, you'll see a list of your events.
β Click the button to move the relevant event onto Stripe processing.
That's it! π
Payments will now be sent to your Stripe account automatically after each sale.
π Transaction Verification Settings
You can control how strictly transactions are checked within your Stripe dashboard/account settings.
We recommend:
β CV2 checking: ON
π« Postcode validation: OFF / DISABLED (this is the default)
β οΈ Changing these settings may result in more rejected transactions or reduce the level of protection you receive.
You can find these settings under Rules within your Stripe account.

π Fees on Refunds
When you refund a payment through Stripe, the Stripe fees associated with the transaction are also returned to you.
π³ Full Refunds
If you refund the entire transaction, all Stripe fees are returned, meaning there is no net Stripe processing cost for the refunded payment.
π° Partial Refunds
For partial refunds, Stripe proportionally returns the percentage of the processing fee associated with the refunded amount, while the fixed fee may still apply.
π‘ Stripe's refund fee policies can vary by country and payment method. Check your Stripe account for the most up-to-date information.
β οΈ Important: Stick With Stripe
Once you've chosen Stripe as your payment processor, we recommend continuing to use Stripe for the duration of your event's sales period.
Switching payment processors during an event can cause limitations.
When customers pay through Stripe, the full transaction amount β including Skiddle Booking Fees, Delivery Charges and other applicable fees β is initially settled into your Stripe account.
Skiddle will then automatically deduct any fees owed to us.
π° Skiddle does not charge you for using Stripe. You receive the full face value of your ticket, minus any fees charged by Stripe.
π Stripe Reconciliation
You can view further information about your Stripe transactions and reconciliation through the Stripe Reconciliation page.
